Our Design Philosophy

While the Swedish term “mysa” doesn’t have a direct English translation, the phrase is more of a philosophy in Swedish culture meaning, “to cozy up, especially at home, and spend time together.”

Stepping into Mysa Hus (mee-sah hoos) feels like a warm cup of cocoa on a snowy day, or dozing off in the grass while lying in the sun. Created with warmth, balance, and connection in mind, Mysa Hus embodies what it means to dwell with intention, bringing everything (and everyone) you need under one roof. We distill every element of the home down to its most essential, well-loved state, leaving space for your family to thrive.

We aren’t building this home based on a blueprint, we are building it based on this philosophy. At Mark D. Williams Custom Homes, we believe in creating intentional spaces for families to dwell well, rooting our spaces in both feeling and function. We’re proud to partner with Oho Interiors and KA Designs to bring Mysa Hus to life, adopting their forward-focused design ethos of honoring the past and designing for the future.

Intentional Living

Mysa Hus is a model home built in Cottagewood, MN available for sale in late 2025 and family-ready in June of 2026.  Unlike traditional model homes, Mysa Hus is built on a vision of intentional living, where every element is carefully considered to nurture connection, comfort, and functionality. At Mark D. Williams Custom Homes, we build more than just houses – we craft spaces for families to thrive.

Functional Design

With togetherness at the forefront, Mysa Hus was designed for gathering with ease.

Common living spaces have an open, easy flow with opportunities for cozy, intimate moments that still feel part of the larger design. The spacious kitchen was crafted for hosting Sunday dinners with ease while functioning flawlessly for weeknight meals between homework and sports practices. Secondary bedrooms were designed with Scandi minimalism, providing enough space for everything you need while also being small enough to encourage every member of the family to gravitate toward shared spaces. Mysa Hus was created to grow with you and your burgeoning interests.

Rooted In Nature

Mysa Hus is steeped in nature, incorporating organic textures, an outdoor-inspired color palette, and natural finishes throughout. Using playful patterns and the intricate lines of traditional Scandi architecture, the home feels at once like a cozy cottage and a modern escape, complete with top-of-the-line in-home technology and appliances. Natural elements of plaster and Scandinavian wood detailing throughout, mixed with clean, modern lines, give the home a true northern feel — where warmth and simplicity meet sophistication. Every material is intentionally selected to create a seamless blend of beauty and function, evoking a sense of effortless living that honors both tradition and innovation.

Mysa: To Cozy Up

Mysa Hus is a home in Cottagewood, MN designed around the Swedish concept of “mysa,” or, “to cozy up at home.”

With togetherness at the forefront, Mysa Hus was designed for gathering with ease. Common living spaces have an open, easy flow with opportunities for cozy, intimate moments that still feel part of the larger design. Imagine a nook for reading that feels made for you, yet is still close enough to hear the kids’ board game banter.
